Why I quit Friday nights (and you should too)

Three Steps to Success

Five years ago, I was broke , skinny, an d living in my parents’ house in a third- world country.

Today, I’m living the life I use d to think was only for other people.

What changed? I stopped consuming and started learning.

Now I wake up an d thank the Lord. I look in the mirror an d see a loving, ambitious, muscular , lean, courag eous, successful, and gregarious entrepreneur. That’s who I am .

I remember watching people online building businesses, travelling , connecting with beautiful, outgoing, successful people , and thought:

“I want that”

But I didn’t , not bad enough.

I felt physically weak , like a push over , I was insec ure around people I didn 't know, especially women .

I felt like a burden to my parents because I was living on their budget.

An d even when I got a job, I felt uncertain and unfulfilled.

What was I doing wrong?

I watche d youtube videos while I ate my dinner .

Videos on how to make money, how to buil d muscle, how to fin d a purpose.

And it didn’t work , why ?

I still watch videos on these an d other topics, but now I get results. What changed?

Before, I was consuming , but not learning . I didn’t change my behavior, so my outcomes were the same.

Humans are exceptional at doing the same thing, over and over, that doesn 't bring happiness or results.

Over an d over, I watched technical videos, motivational videos , podc asts an d reels, but saw no progress.

What I Really Wante d

I wasn 't just looking for health , wealth, an d happiness.

Above all, I wanted meaning : the feeling that who I was in the world actually mattered.

Unique Solution

The way out of this down ward spiral of trying things and seeing no change , is to learn.

Lessons are learned through experience:

Test , measure , compare , iterate .

Get a coach or mentor : Someone who is in at least one area of their life, closer to where you want to be than you are. Listen to them , ask questions, and most importantly, apply those lessons in a real- life setting .

Here 's the catch .

Setting up one coffee meeting with a successful friend? Easy . Taking notes during a YouTube video? Easy . Writing down your goals? Also easy.

What 's hard is to continue doing that repeatedly, day in , day out, without rest and with full faith that you are on your way to achieving those goals.

An d doing this for weeks , months, years.

In my last newsletter I talke d about my interviews with successful people.

One common thread in them: They think in decades .

Not today’s sale or workout, but the business relationship they will enjoy ten years from now.

Breakthrough

The biggest positive turns in my life came after I investe d heavily in myself.

  • My physical health improved drastically when I investe d in a trainer an d nutritionist.

  • I started earning more when I decide d I put my whole being in the work I do.

  • My self -confidence grew when I hired a coach to guide me through uncertainty.

  • My sense of meaning appeare d when I quit going out on Fridays to work on Satur days.

There is virtue in work when you work on the right thing .

I don 't believe in work / life balance.

It 's all life.

If you feel the need to diss ociate the two it’s because you don 't find passion in the work you do.

The meaning you’re looking for is in the work you 're avoiding .

How to get what you want

The moment you write down your goal, an d a plan to achieve it, you have create d a possibility for success .

Rea d that again , slowly .

Here 's the framework that change d everything for me:

I remember when I was a kid, my mom ha d just sai d "no " to a request of mine.

I stor med down stairs, ho pped on Youtube an d searched: How to get what you want.

Some of us still treat life like we did our parents; we think that just by asking , anything will be given to us.

At least , those of us who were spo iled.

But the art of asking is in form ulating the right question .

Here 's to you , feeling that frust ration.

1 . Face Your Fears

Write down your worst- case scenario in viv id detail. What would failure look like?

Broke an d living paycheck to paycheck? Over weight and out of shape? Stuck in a job you hate?

Now ask yourself: What behaviors woul d lead me there? Who would I have to become to end up like that?

This isn’t to scare you. It’s to get crystal clear on what you’re moving away from.

2 . Create your dream

Visual ize the polar opposite of your nightmare.

Be specific, and let your imagination ro am free.

Make sure you know what is your **most important dream**.

Something that brings you chills by just thinking about it .

Pro question to find your deep est desire: what do I want this for?

Example:

You don’t want money; you want a house on the beach.

You don’t want a house on the beach, you want to wake up in peace.

  • Invest

Here 's my question for you : What’s one thing you could invest in TODAY that would make your life better a year from now?

Could be a book , a coach, a gym membership, or simply saying no to Friday night plans to work on your dreams.

To stret ching beyond what you think is possible.

Have a wonderful week!

Yours,

Diego
